CC accused of failing consumers over PPI

The Competition Commission (CC) is failing consumers by not getting to the bottom of why there is a lack of competition in the payment protection insurance (PPI) arena, a provider says.

Paymentcare.co.uk says the CC’s report, published today, is “singularly disappointing” and will not help to prevent consumers being sold inappropriate PPI. It says the fact some consumers are unaware stand-alone providers can offer similar policies to lenders, but for lower costs, proves they are not being treated fairly. The CC report outlines current thinking on PPI and invites industry comment before the release of its findings next year.
