Unisex annuity wedge is driven, warns Standard Life

The UK could be moving closer towards unisex annuity, motor and life assurance rates despite the agreement to give a block exemption to new EU law.

John Lawson, marketing technical manager Standard Life, has issued the warning based on closer reading of the compromise agreement issued last week by the EU's Council of Ministers. Despite the apparent exemption offered to the insurance industry, the reality is wording in the agreement suggests calls for equal treatment between women and men in the access to and supply of goods and services is gathering pace, Lawson suggests.
