Eurozone falls into official recession

The Eurozone has officially entered a recession after the 15-nation area suffered two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth.

Figures from the European Union show the single currency area's GDP shrank by 0.2% in the third quarter of this year, mirroring the fall in Q2. However, not all countries within the Eurozone are in recession and France saw growth of 0.1% in the third quarter. Germany and Italy have not been so fortunate and both are now in a technical recession with GDP down 0.5% in each country. The large falls in these major economies are one of the main reasons the single-currency area is suffering economic decline.
