Roughly 71% of landlords expect rent arrears to increase during 2009, research by the National Landlords Association (NLA) has found.
Of those questioned, just 1% felt that rent arrears would decrease next year, with just over a quarter (28%) expecting no overall change. The study also found that two thirds (67%) of landlords have experienced problems with rent arrears in the past, with 37% facing payment difficulties with current tenants. David Salusbury, chairman of the NLA, says landlords are in a worrying situation, and need to do all they can to ensure they receive rent regularly.
