Figures in the latest Hometrack survey of UK house prices suggest the market has retreated for a 12th consecutive month as average prices shed 0.2% around the country.
The latest monthly fall means the average house is worth 3% less than at this time last year - £161,600 versus £167,700. However, Hometrack also points out that market activity is on the up. Sales agreed gained 3.5% in June following a 7.6% rise in May. May’s higher figures has been put down to buyers coming into the market, while conversely buyers left the market in June. Overall it remains a buyers market, Hometrack says. ”Prices will inevitably decrease again in the coming months,” it says.
