Advisers to gain Chartered Financial Planner status

Financial planning is about to become a chartered profession as the CII has finally gained approval from the Privy Council to confer intermediaries the title of Chartered Financial Planner.

This landmark decision will give financial advisers the right to apply for chartered status and call themselves a Chartered Financial Planner if they have qualifications which sit between the CII’s existing Fellowship and Associateship qualifications. More specifically, those who currently hold CII Fellowship or have completed eight or more Advanced Financial Planning Certificate (AFPC) modules will be invited in November by the Personal Finance Society to apply for the title of chartered financial planner and the first graduation ceremony will confer the title in February 2006.
