30 days to pay stamp duty - Revenue

Homeowners now have just 30 days to pay stamp duty land tax on any commercial or residential property purchase, according to new rules issued by the Inland Revenue.

Although announced in November 2003, Revenue rules only came into force on Monday (19th) so many homeowners may still be unaware of the short deadline they now have to pay the property tax. Consumers will have just 30 days to file documents after the purchase of a property, although the Revenue says it will forego any late payment penalties in cases where paperwork is filed “no more than 40 days after the effective date of the transaction”.
