OFT appoints chief exec

The Office of Fair Trading has appointed John Fingleton as its new chief executive, awarding him a £250k annual salary.

Fingleton is currently chairperson of the Irish Competition Authority and will take up the post in October, beginning a five-year term. Fingleton says: “The OFT has a central role to play in making markets work better for the consumer and for the UK economy. Over the next five years, I will work hard with the new Chair, Philip Collins, and my other new colleagues to ensure that the OFT delivers on its mandate to the fullest extent possible.” He takes over from Sir John Vickers, who completes his term at the end of September and joins newly-appointed chair, Philip Collins.
