Competition Commission launches PPI investigation

The Competition Commission (CC) is inviting industry comment on the nature of competition in the payment protection insurance (PPI) market in the UK.

It has released a document outlining its current thinking on PPI as well as the issues it intends to focus on following the consultation document’s provisional findings, set to be published in May next year. Inquiry chairman and CC deputy chairman, Peter Davis, says the fact that in some cases the cost of PPI is higher than the interest paid on loans is just one of a number of issues that need to be examined and addressed. “After examining a substantial amount of evidence, we think there are some areas that we need to explore further,” he says. “We are far from making up our minds, but w...
