European property fund manager Cordea Savills has set up a joint venture fund management company with Japanese trading house, Mitsui & Co, and Japanese fund manager Kenedix to create property funds for Japanese investors.
The first fund to be launched, the MBK UK Office Property Trust, will invest in small and midsize office buildings with a focus on central London. The fund will be a Jersey property unit trust with a 10-year life. Mitsui, Cordea Savills and Kenedix will each provide co-investment capital to the fund to allow the creation of a seed portfolio prior to equity raising from institutional investors in Japan later this year.
