After opening the doors to his new advice firm last month, Tom Ham speaks to Professional Adviser's Sophie King about what inspired him to create his own business and goals for the firm...

Advisers who open their own advice businesses may do so for various reasons, but Ham (pictured) approached a stage in his life where he was considering what impact he wants to leave behind. "I've flirted with the idea for a while," he tells PA. "Post-RDR I was a self-employed adviser in a network in Dundee and it was the most ill-advised career move of my life. It did not work."
