Among re-platforming's various issues, client migration is arguably the most problematic, writes Tom Ellis. As the lang cat market analysis manager Terry Huddart puts it, this is the "live ammunition stage".

As part of switching technology provider or transferring onto an upgraded version of their current platform, re-platformers have to move all of their clients' data and assets from the old platform to the new one. This exercise means that after months - or indeed years - of preparing a new platform and doing their utmost to make sure all technological bugs have been fixed, platforms must move users from their old technology and testing sites to the real deal.
