To mark International Women's Day, Professional Adviser talks to Mary Waring, who - having just opened her second specialist financial planning business for women in five years - is one of a growing number of women making waves in the advice sector

Although comparatively new to the world of financial planning, Waring(pictured) has worked in the broader financial sector since leaving university. She was a chartered accountant for years, before becoming a mortgage adviser in 2005. Waring says she had always liked the idea of being a financial planner but was initially put off by the intensive exam process.
