Web of lies hard to spot

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has warned consumers about financial planning firm Launton Wealth, an unauthorised clone of an EEA-based company. The firm's website seems incredibly sophisticated at first but on closer inspection it is no more than a web of lies...

The regulator put up a statement on its website claiming Launton Wealth was a scam operation using the details of Liechtenstein-authorised insurance company Finanz-Control Anstalt. Launton Wealth says on its website it is the trading name of Finanz-Control Anstalt which is European Economic Area (EEA) authorised with the FCA number 531232. Could the FCA possibly have got it wrong? Arguably, to an 'untrained' consumer's eye the site looks very real. It has most of the tabs any other simple site would feature - from product information, to log-in portal and even a recruitment window. ...
