I read in the press this week that life expectancy in Britain is increasing by 20 minutes every hour, and that as a whole the nation is woefully unprepared for the financial implications of this*. A fact that was reinforced by our own research this year, which found that the average pension shortfall in the UK was more than 20% and that on average we will be £4,613.96 per year worse off in retirement than we expected.
