One of the most unexpected things a client told me recently was that, as he was in clearing and sorting through his belongings in preparation for a house move, he found an old pension policy screwed up in the back of a drawer. It dated from 1989. This client, who has been with me for years, is a retired consultant doctor and, as such, is not short of money. He had not noticed the £160 that had been leaking from his account every month since then, but the policy had accrued £60,000 since it was set up 23 years ago. He had completely forgotten the conversation with the doorstep sales...
