With John Healey appointed as the next chancellor, advisers are hoping for reforms to National Insurance and inheritance tax (IHT) changes made under his predecessor.

Former defence secretary John Healey was appointed chancellor yesterday (20 July) following Andy Burnham taking on the role of prime minister. Healey was previously defence secretary under former prime minister Keir Starmer before he resigned in a row over defence spending. Replacing Rachel Reeves, Healey posted on X: "Together, we will build a new economy, build new hope and advance the working people of this country. Time to get on with the job."
