The FTSE 100 Index closed barely changed today, up just 3 points to 5,861 points, after a poor start on Wall Street erased early gains.

The FTSE 100 has ended the day up 8 points, or 0.14%, to 5,896.9 as Wall Street opened well allowing the index to reverse losses which had lasted most of the day.

THE SCOTSMAN claims the new money being raised through Standard Life's flotation today is unlikely to give it any significant commercial edge.

The FTSE 100 Index gained 63.30 points, or 1.1%, to 5,890 points today, led by oil stocks.
