FTSE flat without Wall St guidance

The FTSE 100 Index ended flat, down just 0.90 points to 5,884 points today, after a closed Wall Street failed to give direction.

Property developers led the risers as they awaited the publication of Kate Barker’s review of the UK’s planning rules. Hammerson rose 3.16% to 1,241p, British Land gained 2.85% to 1,333p and Land Securities advanced 2.79% to 1,879p. Contract caterer Compass gained 0.65% to 273p, as rumours emerged of possible interest from private equity groups. Drug giant AstraZeneca slipped back 1.38% to 3,219p after ING Financial changed its “buy” recommendation on the shares to “hold” as it awaits key developments over the next few months.
