Newport-based Heron House Financial Management and 1825's Chloe Moran were multiple winners at the 2019 New Talent Awards.

South Wales firm Heron House Financial Management won two accolades at Thursday's (26 September) New Talent Awards and a highly commended in the prestigious Rising Star category. The firm won Young Team of the Year, while personal assistant Rachel Jenkins won Administrator of the Year and Liam Fowler was highly commended in the Rising Star category.

Meanwhile 1825 senior paraplanner Chloe Moran won the sought-after Rising Star award, along with Paraplanner of the Year.

The night also proved successful for Niche IFA director Ray Adams, who is also based in Newport. Niche IFA won the award for Diversity and Inclusion, while CashCalc, a cashflow planning tool also founded by Adams, was highly commended in the Young Team of the Year category.

All in all, the talent of more than 50 individuals new to the industry were considered for the inaugural New Talent Awards, which were sponsored by Architas and seek to reward excellence among those new to the advice sector and wider financial services profession.

Professional Adviser news editor Hannah Godfrey (pictured, right) said: "The New Talent Awards provide a platform for those new to the sector, whether they be school leavers or career-changers, to shout about their talents.

"The judges were hugely impressed with the various award submissions and the achievements of individuals who in some cases had only been working in the sector for a couple of years. If Thursday evening is anything to go by, the advice sector and wider financial services profession is set to benefit from some really talented individuals who are ready to put their clients at the centre of their focus and make working environments happy places for all. The future certainly looks bright."

A panel of more than 20 judges had the task of whittling down more than 100 entries from talent working across the sector. The judging panel included Sarah Ackland (head of UK funds at Architas), Ray Adams (chairman at Niche IFA), Martin Bamford (CEO of Bamford Media), Leanne Barnham (head of global distribution marketing at Architas), Julie Best (qualitative research at NextWealth), Remko Bijtjes (commercial director at Defaqto), Lisa Conway-Hughes (Chartered financial adviser at Westminster Wealth Management), Jason Flood (academy director at SJP), Ben Goss (CEO of Dynamic Planner), Cathi Harrison (founder and director at Para-Sols), Adam Higgs (head of research at Financial & Technology Research Centre), Dawn Hyams (senior consultant at The Wisdom Council), Keith Richards (CEO and managing director at the PFS and CII), John Somerville (relationship director at the London Institute of Banking and Finance), Laura Thursfield (IFA at Mazars), Sarah Waring (client and proposition director at Quilter Private Client Advisers), Kate Webber (managing director and head of product development at Calastone) and PA's own Hannah Godfrey and Sophie King.

Needless to say, care was taken to ensure fairness and impartiality for those judges with team nominations in various categories.
