"Why are you so late back from holiday?" asked the chairman of the improbably-sized investment company Prandeamus Asset Management when I visited him this week. "Ah," I said sheepishly.

"I'm afraid I may have misled you about my real return date. I'm not proud of myself but it seemed the only way to stop you following me around France. Sorry."
