In 2025, Mediate UK estimated that 42% of marriages in the UK were projected to end in divorce before their 25th wedding anniversary. Ever since the House of Lords judgment in White v White in October 2000, financial claims on divorce in England and Wales have not been constrained simply by needs but have extended to a fair share of the assets, cross-checked against the "yardstick of equality".
