Private equity specialist Tom Whelan says professional services firms may be a particularly interesting area to watch this year

Most market commentators appear to have a more optimistic view of private equity investing in 2026 off the back of a more settled international trade position, albeit some uncertainties remain. Expectations generally are that there will be greater deal volume in 2026 as compared to the lows of 2025 and an increase in higher value deals which were a feature of 2025 investing.
