Divorce rates reached a decade high in the middle of 2022 coinciding with the introduction of no-fault divorce which came in post the stresses and strains of lockdown. With the economic situation looking uncertain, divorce rates may temporarily decline as they did in 2008, the last previous recession when the Office for National Statistics concluded that a recession is associated with an increase in divorce but with a delayed impact.
