The search for high and rising income has come at the cost of increased complexity and, in some cases, increased risk that might not be that easy to assess for suitability, writes Jim Henning

The idea of an off-the-shelf multi-asset fund solution that aims to deliver reliable income, beat inflation and keep volatility low has a very familiar and comforting feel about it. Paying natural yield without the need to cash in units can help investors stay calm in the event of sudden market shocks, as the tap continues to drip income payments quarterly or monthly, come what may. The eponymously titled ‘distribution' funds have been around a very long time - in fact, some even precede the political turmoil around Europe that the baby-boomer generation might just remember with a feelin...
