There's no question it was a provocative headline: ‘Are paraplanners simply glorified typists?'

But we did not expect it to turn into the full-on debate it eventually did on the IFAonline message boards. Some comments had to be removed (you know who you are) while others, we thought, were fair game: “Don’t insult typists!” On the one side were advisers who argued they “could not function” without their paraplanner; that the role had evolved into a profession in its own right.
