The tale of the man who didn't lose enough limbs was a bad press day for critical illness cover, but IFAs should use it to explain the importance of comprehensive protection advice.
Alas this week we saw a new declined critical illness claim covered in the national press. This time, it was because the claimant hadn't lost enough limbs. To be specific, he has lost one, and not two, which was specified (from outset) in the policy terms. Over 90% of CI claims are paid successfully these days, largely thanks to work from the ABI, Ombudsman and various IFA and media campaigning.
