The departure of Brett Williams, the very public face and driving force behind a revitalised Cofunds, has shocked the platform world.

He leaves after only 18 turbulent months in the job during which time he totally shook up Cofunds' proposition and laid a very public challenge to its rivals and the regulator. Williams turned Cofunds' focus onto financial planners in the run-up to and post RDR and he wasn't afraid to force its message down the throats of the industry. Williams entered into public spats with fund groups following renegotiations on rebates, issued an open challenge to the life companies that platforms were seeking their legacy assets and set up a controversial link-up with OBSR.
