Since then, the press and political commentators have devoted many column inches and airtime trying to prise the new relationship apart. Even during the slightly strained press conference fronted by Cameron and Clegg together for the first time, the journalists were seeking to spark a quarrel. “Remember when you called Clegg a ‘joke’?” one journalist asked the new prime minister.
