I found myself wondering what an editorial briefing at a national tabloid newspaper must be like the other day: "OK, we're putting the Paul Burrell and Princess Di story on page six today. I've pencilled it in for page nine on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and then page four at the weekend."

It continues: “We’ve found a shopkeeper who once sold Paul a can of lemonade and a bar of chocolate, so we should get at least five days out of that. Now I’m in two minds whether to put Amy Winehouse before or after Madonna. Amy’s changed her shade of eye shadow, but Madonna’s had her nails done. Actually, I think we’ll go with ‘House prices are about to crash’ as we ran that this time last year so it’s due another airing.” So what’s my point?
