Financial Planning Tools: PlanLab - can it deliver?

This is the first in our series of reviews that look at the 'Planning' tools available in the UK to help financial planners analyse their clients' financial positions and build effective financial plans to help meet their future goals and aspirations.

The first set of tools we investigated is called PlanLab and this comprises a suite of financial planning modules that originated in the US, but this has now been tailored and marketed in the UK by BMC. Its US heritage and user base is substantial with 65,000 users, including clients such as AEGON, Aviva and AXA. Its UK user base is currently much more modest, and while BMC won't release exact numbers we believe this to be in the low hundreds.
