Managers must broaden horizons for '08 success

The financial trade press is full of articles from industry commentators telling advisers that they must expand their range of products to their clients if they are to survive the current market downturn which is set to continue well into 2008.

This is good advice and advisers should be considering payment protection, buy-to-let and secured loans in addition to their core products, to name but three. But another option is to also look to expand the geographical boundaries as well as the product range. It is a shame that more independent company owners do not push their businesses forward to the next level. I appreciate that there are risks involved but if senior management at some of these companies had broader horizons it would be easier to generate the motivation required to fend off potential suitors and drive the busines...
