Gender pensions gap grows to £113,000

Report finds more than a third of women are likely to face poverty in retirement

The gender pensions gap between men and women has grown to £113,000, research from Scottish Widows has found.

The provider's 21st annual Women and Retirement report – which was published yesterday (18 November) and surveyed 5,167 adults aged 18 and over – revealed the median total private pension for women at retirement is £173,000, compared to £286,000 for men. Consequently, the report noted the gender pensions gap between men and women stood at £113,000, compared to £100,000 in last year's report. The report showed due to this gap, women are more likely to fall short of the minimum lifestyle in retirement according to Pensions UK's Retirement Living Standards (RLS) at 36% compared to 31% of me...
