Govt forced to respond as pension tax lock petition secures 14,000 signatures

A petition urging the government to introduce a pension tax lock to prevent further policy changes has secured more than 14,000 signatures in under two weeks.

As the total has surpassed 10,000, the government will be forced to officially respond to the AJ Bell-initiated petition. AJ Bell explained the petition, launched at the start of October, urged chancellor Rachel Reeves to make a "public commitment to protect the tax incentives which form the cornerstone of retirement saving in the UK – tax relief and tax-free cash". It said the sheer number of signatories (more than 13,900 as of this morning, 13 October) pointed to "widespread concern over rumours concerning pension tax reform".
