IFAs must show empathy not judgement during tough client life events

Financial implications of life events and what women need to consider

Advisers working with clients facing a significant life event such as divorce or bereavement must not make any assumptions, show empathy and give support not judgement in times of emotional turmoil.

Speaking at the Personal Investment Management & Financial Advice Association (PIMFA) Women's Symposium 2025 yesterday (22 April), a panel discussion explored the financial implications of life events and what women need to consider. It was also highlighted that vulnerable clients were mentioned more than 100 times in the Financial Conduct Authority's Consumer Duty regulation.
