FOS complaints continue to increase amid economic challenges

FOS complaints totalled more than 93,000 in the first half of 2023

Complaints to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) continued to rise during the first half of the year, according to the body’s latest data.

The FOS said it received a total of 93,114 complaints between 1 January and 30 June 2023. The figure was significantly higher than the same period in 2022 when 79,921 complaints were received. Complaints linked to decumulation, life and pensions totalled 3,842 in the first half of the year compared to 2,593 in the same period of 2022. There was also an increase in gripes about investments - up from 2,227 in 2022 to 2,593 this year. FOS complaints about insurance, banking and credit were also substantially higher.
