FCA fines adviser £68,000 after years of 'deliberate lies'

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has banned financial adviser Simon Varley and fined him £68,300 for lacking honesty and integrity after he repeatedly lied to conceal his own wrongdoings.

Varley worked at Dickinsons Financial Management as customer adviser until January 2013. Following the introduction of the Retail Distribution Review, the regulator introduced rules that required advisers hold a minimum level of qualification to be approved for a CF30 function. However, despite his CF30 approval being removed in January 2013 upon his own request, Varley continued to advise retail customers between January 2013 and September 2017.
