Heading into an inflationary environment potentially 'damaging' for portfolios

Ruffer investment director Alex Lennard has said the potential of inflation rising after the Covid-19 pandemic could be damaging to the traditional 60/40 portfolios that have served investors so well in recent times.

Speaking at Professional Adviser's Working Lunch series, Lennard discussed the impacts the pandemic has had on portfolios and what to do next. "Covid-19 has enlisted an absolute sea change," he said. "Not only are we seeing stimulus in a scale never seen before, but you're now seeing stimulus from the two major parts of the economy - both the monetary authorities and the fiscal authorities - acting at the same time.
