Aviva full year profits rise; exits Italian market

Aviva has reported net profits of £2.9bn compared to £2.6bn in 2019 and confirmed its exit from the Italian market as it focuses on the UK, Ireland and Canada.

Its 2020 preliminary results confirmed the sale of its Italian operations for €873m in cash. It has also recently exited the French market. Chief executive Amanda Blanc said: "2020 was a year of significant change for Aviva. We have taken major steps forward in simplifying the business, most recently with the sale of Aviva France and today's announcement of the sale of the rest of our Italian operations.
