Government ‘re-launch’ expected this week

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been forced to self-isolate by the NHS Track & Trace alert system, Downing Street has said.

The news comes as a blow to the PM, ahead of what was set to be a crucial week in his premiership after it was confirmed that his senior adviser Dominic Cummings would quit next month. Johnson, who contracted Covid-19 and spent time in intensive care earlier in the year, will self-isolate after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for the virus. A spokesman said Johnson was well and has no symptoms, adding: "He will carry on working from Downing Street, including on leading the government's response to the coronavirus pandemic.
