Financial planning no longer 'taboo' topic

Lockdown sparks advice discussions

Some 40% of people have discussed financial planning with family or friends in the past year as the topic becomes more mainstream, according to research.

AKG, which conducted in association with provider Canada Life, said the figure proved financial advice and planning was no longer a "taboo" subject. It added some 29% had reported chatting about the topic in the month preceding the survey pointing to the coronavirus pandemic and resulting lockdowns as catalysts for financial planning discussions. More than 1,000 consumers took part in the online study in the summer. However, the research also found 57% of people had not seen a financial adviser in the last five years.
