'Choose sustainable funds with a clear policy' - Keith Balmer

BMO Global Asset Management director of multi-asset solutions Keith Balmer has said that, when choosing an sustainable fund, advisers should look for ones with a clear policy that outperform the benchmark.

Speaking at Professional Adviser's ESG Masterclass event on 28 October, he said the key attributes of a sustainable fund are performance, consistency and transparency.  "You should have demonstrable proof that that fund has the ability to outperform its benchmark, beat its peer group or achieve its investment target," he said. "Consistency wise, funds should be aligned to a clearly defined sustainable outcome, which means there should be the same exclusions and reasons for inclusion across the entire portfolio.
