Pensions minister issues call to get self-employed saving

'Opportunity' to reach further customers

Pensions and financial inclusion minister Guy Opperman has called on the pensions sector to help formulate policy to solve the issues surrounding retirement saving by the self-employed.

Speaking at the Association of British Insurers' two-day ‘Savings Tech Sprint', which focused on making retirement easy for the self-employed, Opperman said the government could not formulate policy without the help of the pensions industry. "The serious reality is, we cannot do this on our own," he said. "Government cannot formulate policy without your help." The minister said he wanted to work with the industry and formulate a "proper policy going forward", adding the industry should view it as a way to reach a "growing market" of what are traditionally seen as a hard-to-reach custo...
