George Osborne has announced he is standing down as an MP in the wake of Theresa May's call for a snap General Election in June.

The former Chancellor, 45, made the announcement through the London Evening Standard, where he was recently appointed as editor.  On Wednesday afternoon MPs are debating and voting on Theresa May's call for a snap General Election on 8 June, which will need a two-thirds majority to pass. Osborne (pictured), currently MP for Tatton, took the opportunity to not stand for re-election.  He said: "I am stepping down from the House of Commons - for now.
