FOS warns of fake ombudsmen - again

Scammers have been calling people

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) has warned of scammers cold-calling people pretending to be from the service in order to elicit personal financial information.

In a fresh warning on its website FOS said: "We've heard that people are getting fraudulent phone calls again from scammers claiming to be from the Financial Ombudsman Service. The scammers are falsely using our name to try to persuade people to reveal details about their personal and financial circumstances." It explained its ombudsmen would not write to or phone people out of the blue to ask for personal information. FOS would only contact people who had been in touch to register a complaint beforehand.
