RIT backs out of Alliance Trust merger plans

RIT Capital Partners has decided not to make a formal offer to merge with Alliance Trust, after the two trusts revealed they were in informal talks last week.

RIT Capital Partners has announced it will not be making a formal offer to merge the investment company with the £2.7bn Alliance Trust, saying the move is not in the best interests of shareholders. In a statement, the £2.5bn trust said the offer had been at a preliminary stage of consideration when the talks were first confirmed.
