WASPI state pension petition secures Commons debate

Campaign group petition attracted 118,000 signatures

MPs will debate changes to the state pension age which campaigner says "unfairly" affect hundreds of thousands of women born after 1951 after an online petition secured parliamentary approval.

The debate, given the go-ahead following an online petition which attracted more than 118,000 signatures, will take place on 1 February, the House of Commons decisions of petitions committee confirmed. Campaign group Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) contend changes to the state pension age have placed an unfair burden on hundreds of thousands of women born in the 1950s.
