Fly-by-night successes come and go but here are the funds that top the list for consistently rewarding long term investors, according to recent research from FE Trustnet.

"Invest for the long-term", is often cited by advisers as the most regular and valuable advice they give. Finding funds that can outperform their peers year-in year-out is the Holy Grail for long-term investors. Outperformance in some years can mean lags in others. But FE Trustnet research has uncovered the investments that have managed to return consistently over a longer timeframe. The results put the Franklin UK Midcap fund at the top of the leader board, headed up by manager Paul Spencer. The fund has made a 516% total return since its launch in July 1999.
