UK investors poured £278m into funds in July, the ninth consecutive month of net flows, according to data from the Investment Association.
However, this marked a significant decline from the £3.6bn recorded in June – around a 92% drop. According to the IA, outflows from equity funds continued in July, with a total of £2.1bn redeemed, which the trade association attributed to renewed tensions in the Middle East. UK equity funds suffered significant outflows of £1.6bn, the highest level in 18 months, which corresponded with a change in government as Andy Burnham became prime minister.
