'It all started going wrong': Former Sesame adviser on why he was leaving anyway

Clive Balchin had been with Sesame for 18 years but an ever more stringent approach to compliance pushed him to hand in his notice - just days before the group announced it was shutting its investment network.

Balchin, of Lancashire-based advice firm James Trickett & Son, said he had been happy as an appointed representative (AR) of the UK's largest network. But two years ago, he told Professional Adviser, "it all started going wrong". He claimed overly restrictive tick-box compliance processes and a lack of leadership made it difficult to write business. "It's a great shame. I don't know what went wrong," said Balchin.
